Course Descriptions
ENGL 102: Essentials of College Reading & Writing
Develop and practice the reading, writing and critical thinking strategies needed for analyzing and responding to academic texts. Strengthen grammar, organization and vocabulary to improve accuracy and fluency in writing. Undergraduate students can earn five general elective credits toward meeting graduation requirements.
ENGL 103: Writing From Sources
Develop and practice the reading, writing and critical thinking strategies needed to create organized and correctly documented papers using academic sources. Learn how to critically read academic texts, develop research questions, make claims, determine the credibility of sources and appropriately cite sources in your writing. Undergraduate students can earn five general elective credits toward meeting graduation requirements.
ENGL 104: Essentials of College Communication
Develop the listening and speaking skills needed for active participation in university courses. Learn how to take effective notes, give presentations, and lead and participate in class discussions. Practice asking questions, sharing opinions, and expressing agreement and disagreement in the classroom. Undergraduate students can earn five general elective credits toward meeting graduation requirements.
ENGL 105: English for International Teaching Assistants (ITAs)
This course is designed specifically for International Teaching Assistants (ITAs) who will be teaching at the University of Washington. The main objectives are to enhance teaching effectiveness by strengthening language production skills, including pronunciation, grammar and vocabulary usage, and by developing skills needed for lesson planning, presenting and interacting with students.
